Hey everyone,
How are you all? I am back!!!!
That too after a really long long break. I do not know how to express myself
after all these days. I am delighted to be back but sometimes I really wonder
that if I have any readers at all. I hope there is at least somebody out there
reading my blog. I am sure. Anyway, dear friends, today I am bringing to you
one of my personal favorites, a movie which really touched my heart. This movie talks about how the domestic help,
who were know as The Help, in the 1960s America were treated by white people
for whom they used to work. This movie
is a 2011 release based on the 2009 novel which goes by the same name – The Help.
The story revolves around how two
maids Aibileen and Minny agree to share their experiences with Skeeter, an aspiring
white author who is the best friend of Elizabeth and Hilly, who are the
employers of these town maids are hail from extremely high society. Aibileen
imbibes good value in Elizabeth’s child, Little Mae Mobely whom Elizabeth
neglects. Skeeter confronts her mother
for firing her childhood maid, Constantine, the woman who raised her and
instilled good values and confidence in herself, for Skeeter was otherwise
considered not so attractive or stylish young lady in her teens. This is how
the story moves forward bringing together the all the friends of Aibileen and
Minny.
The most disgusting part is how Hilly
argues for a separate bathroom outside the house for the house helps putting
forward the point that the usage of the restroom by them would spread diseases
among the white families to which everyone agrees. In another instance, on a rainy
night, Hilly refuses Minny from using the restroom inside the house and insists
that she go outside and use the toilet outside. But to her amusement, Minny
uses it by giving a false excuse and is fired from the job. In order to seek
revenge, Minny cooks a chocolate pie exclusively for Hilly with a special
ingredient and refuses to give a bite to Hilly’s mother. When she reveals about
the ingredient, Hilly’s mother bursts out in laughter due to which she forces
her to live in a nursing home.
There are many such instances in
the movie wherein we really feel sorry for the house helps and are compelled to
think on the circumstances on how people behaved with others whom they assumed
were not equivalents. Irrespective of gender, color, race, caste, religion or
class, we as human beings should remember one thing and that is that everyone
on the planet deserves love and respect. Everyone is same in the eyes of God. It
is us humans who have created this divide among ourselves and it is our duty to
fill the gaps.
This movie teaches one important
lesson and that is – Humans are equal. No individual should be suppressed just
because they belong to a certain color or gender or class or race or religion,
but everyone should be given a chance as everyone deserves it.
I hope all of you will like this
movie. Please let me know friends. Bye for now my dear readers.
Love you All.
Namitha.
